The Essential Role of Primary Health Care for Health Security and Securing Health Conference

Date: July 19-20, 2023

Location:
National Academy of Sciences
2101 Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20418

Overview: This conference takes place nearly 5 years after the Declaration of Astana and will focus on advancing Primary Health Care in developed and developing countries as a priority for national health security and securing the health of people around the world. The 2021 U.S. National Academies’ report, Implementing High Quality Primary Care led to the creation of a primary care strategy coordinating infrastructure within the U.S. Federal Government that promises to build toward primary health care as a common good and as a solution to national health priorities.  This new infrastructure also seeks to promote collaboration that will both strengthen primary care in the United States as well as primary health care around the world. It is supported by a national, external advisory function of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. While this U.S. infrastructure may be a model for other countries, many nations are already ahead of the United States in implementing fit-for-purpose primary health care, encouraging partnerships with public health, promoting global health security, and improving health equity.

Partners: The Commonwealth Fund, Center for Professionalism and Value in Health Care, The American Board of Family Medicine Foundation, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), Resolve to Save Lives, Ariadne Labs
