In late July, record flash flooding swamped entire Appalachian towns, including some of the poorest communities in America. The floods ravaged homes and led to dozens of deaths. Hazard, Kentucky, was the epicenter of the flooding.
Since 2021, Ariadne Labs has partnered with the Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) and its Regional Medical Center in Hazard to build and strengthen capacity to provide acute care at home through the Rural Home Hospital initiative. ARH is a not-for-profit health system serving more than 400,000 residents across Eastern Kentucky and Southern West Virginia. ARH is the largest provider of care and the single largest employer in southeastern Kentucky.
