Miranda Loutet
Miranda Loutet, PhD MSc, is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Vulnerable Infant Portfolio on the BetterBirth program at Ariadne Labs. She is leading a study describing the feeding practices of very low birthweight and/or very preterm infants in India embedded within the Low Birthweight and Preterm Infant Feeding Trial and Supportive Care Package (LIFT-UP) study. Her fellowship is financially supported by The International Society for Research in Human Milk and Lactation-Family Larsson-Rosenquist Foundation Trainee Expansion Program. Through this fellowship she is gaining skills from Ariadne Labs to conduct research at the cross-section of evidence generation and implementation science to drive innovation in health equity in low-resource settings.
Miranda received her MSc in Control of Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and her PhD in Epidemiology from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. As a doctoral student she was affiliated with the Centre for Global Child Health, SickKids Hospital (Toronto, Canada) and supported a research program to test the use of probiotics in the prevention of severe infection during early-infancy in Bangladesh, while focussing her thesis on measurement of early-infant feeding practices and the promotion of exclusive breastfeeding. Over the past 13 years, Miranda has worked on global health research projects in the fields of maternal and child health, sexual and reproductive health, and infectious diseases throughout Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia; responsible for study design, coordination and implementation, analysis, and knowledge dissemination.
