TEAMBIRTH: Collaborating with Doulas

TeamBirth is a patient-centered care model that aims to improve communication, teamwork, and shared decision-making during labor and birth. Structured bedside huddles and a shared planning tool bring the full team together – including the birthing person, support person(s), and doula – to contribute information and align on a shared plan and next steps.

Within TeamBirth, doulas are recognized as key team members, helping ensure their clients feel heard, respected, and involved throughout care. Explore our TeamBirth Doula Integration resources for both doulas and clinicians below:

If you are part of a program looking to train doulas on TeamBirth, we would be happy to provide a template slide deck upon request (email us at deliverydecisions@ariadnelabs.org).

Since 2018, TeamBirth has been implemented in more than 250 hospitals in the United States, Sweden, and Canada. Check out this map of all TeamBirth sites in your state or region. If a hospital near you is interested in implementing TeamBirth, please contact us HERE.

Some hospitals choose to pursue TeamBirth Recognition, a designation that demonstrates their commitment to sustaining TeamBirth in their facility. Learn more about becoming a TeamBirth Recognized site.
