Susan Haas, MD, MSc, is an obstetrician-gynecologist and co-PI for Ariadne Labs’ CRICO-funded work focused on reducing health care system expansion risks to patient safety. She brings long experience in the realm of health system affiliation having led the incorporation of Harvard University Health Services Ob/Gyn department into Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (HVMA) ObGyn services, managed the ongoing relationship of HVMA ObGyn services with Dedham Medical Ob/Gyn, and planned for the redeployment of physicians, midwives, and patients out of BWH and into four other Boston hospitals in 2014. As co-PI, Dr. Haas oversees the planning and execution of the expansion risks work.
Dr. Haas’s non clinical work has focused on four areas: Physician Leadership, Quality/Patient Safety, Systems Engineering in healthcare, and Practice Variation. In those roles she focused on development of future leaders, functional teams at all levels, and processes to measure, improve, and sustain quality outcomes.
In addition to serving as vice chair of the Quality and Patient Safety Committee of the MA Board of Registration in Medicine, Dr. Haas has a longstanding interest in Provider Practice Variation Analysis (PPVA) and serves on the Massachusetts Health Quality Partners PPVA combined leaders group. When not at Ariadne Labs,she serves as Medical Subject Matter Expert for the Open Health Services division at MITRE, Corp.
Dr. Haas received her AB from Mount Holyoke College, her MD from Harvard Medical School, and her MSc from the Harvard School of Public Health. She completed her residency in ObGyn and fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
